How to choose a good sunscreen?

How to choose a good sunscreen?

Currently in the market there is a wide variety of sunscreen but not all protect the skin at 100%, so then we share some aspects you should know to choose a good sunscreen.
  • Solar protection Factor(SPF).

The SPF indicates the time that the skin can be exposed without suffering from erythema or sunburn. For example if your skin takes 10 minutes to suffer a sunburn when you do not use sunscreen, therefore,  if you use a sunscreen with SPF 30 your skin will take 30 minutes to suffer a sunburn. Always  choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or SPF 50.

  •  UVB and UVA rays.

Verifies that the sunscreen offers protection against UVB and UVA.
*UVB rays affect the superficial layers of the skin causing sunburn and skin cáncer.
*UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the layers of the skin, breaking the cellular structure and causing wrinkles, pigmentation or melanoma.

  • Chemical filter or physical filter.

Pays attention to the ingredients from which the sunscreen is made up and distinguishes whether these belong to the classification of chemical filters or physical filters.
Chemical filters: These sunscreen contain chemicals capable of penetrating the skin and produce a photochemical reaction that transforms solar radiation into non-harmful, but these chemicals are able to cause skin allergies.
The most used ingredients in the elaboration of these products are: Octylcrylene, Octinoxate, Avobenzone, Oxybenzone, Octisalate, Homosalate.
Avoids buying a sunscreen that contains oxybenzone, because once absorbed in the skin can cause hormonal alterations.
Physical filters: The Protectors with physical filters do not penetrate the skin and create an external layer that works as a mirror reflecting the sun's rays and preventing them from penetrating the skin. Most of these products are made with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
Sunscreens with a physical filter are better than chemical filter protectors.

  • Water-resistance and sweat.

To ensure greater effectiveness, check that it is resistant to water or sweat.
  • Choose a sunscreen Hipoalergenico and not comedogénico.
